In a recent convention of the People’s Labour Party, hosted on July 15, the chairperson of the political party, Wendy Phipps had called out the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party for allegedly creating a sense of insecurity and fear in the country.
The opposition party chairperson has accused the ruling labour adminstration of not paying enough attention to solving several rampant problems in the country.
At the convention, Phipps said that the administration is not concerned about the real problems that the country is facing. She highlighted issues in rampant crime, unemployment, and a collapsing healthcare system.
While the opposition has been making these remarks and “launching attacks” on the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, the incumbent government has been addressing many of these crises as the PLP leader put it. During the first quarter of 2025, that is January 1, to March 31, the country did not witness any homicides.
Overall, the number of homicides in the country in the year 2025 has reduced by a massive 76%. This massive reduction is a result of strengthened laws and community involvement in fighting crime.
The community consultations which was one of the strategies of the incumbent government to fight crime have already been seeing positive results. Further in terms of youth employment, the labour administration has been working to conduct training and workshops for youngsters which can help them in finding suitable jobs.
Recently, EV training and Solar Energy training have helped in getting youngsters across the federation future ready. The administration is dedicated towards helping the youth of the country in a sustainable and tangible manner.
The incumbent government is also delivering significant infrastructure development, with work being done in several areas. Construction of houses, educational institutions and much more is also providing employment to the people of the island nation.
The ongoing construction projects and developments which are taking place all over the island nation are utilizing a large fraction of the local workforce. Furthermore, in terms of healthcare, the nation has also seen tangible improvements.
The country has reported a 20% decline in the number of in-hospital deaths which is proof of the fact that the investments that have been made to the healthcare sector of the country have also borne fruit.
In addition to this recent statistic, the first ever public MRI Machine is also being brought to the nation under the labour government. Over the last three years, the labour administration has also updated several outdated equipment in the hospitals in addition to improving the eye clinic, the renal center and other facilities.
