St Kitts and Nevis has started the preparation for the 50th Regular Meeting of the Heads of the Government of CARICOM. The officials have shared that with the opening of the meeting less than a day away, several leaders from all over the nation are expected to start arriving on the island.
The officials have shared that the first leader to arrive in Basseterre for the four day event was the President of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons. She was given a warm welcome into the federation by The Deputy Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Geoffrey Hanley.
President Geerlings-Simons was received at the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport by a Guard of Honor. The officials have shared that the people of the island will be welcoming a large number of people from all over the region.
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Phillip J Pierre have announced their plan to attend the event. The other leaders have also expressed their agreement to be part of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Heads of Governments.
Most recently, the Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary, Farley Augustine will also be in attendance at the event. Representatives from the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, The Commonwealth, and the Afreximbank will also be present during the four day event.
More names will pop up as the national leaders, Prime Ministers and government officials begin arriving at the island. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, The arrivals will continue for the first half of the day.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has confirmed that over 95% of the members of the CARICOM have confirmed their intention to arrive. The officials will be engaged in serious discussions starting on February 24. The sessions will run for four days, with the meetings closing on February 27.
