Prime Minster Dr Terrance Drew met with the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali for a diplomatic face to face meeting. The Prime Minister is conducting these meetings with the heads of the CARICOM states ahead of the 50th regular meeting of the CARICOM.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis spoke with the President of Guyana on various issues of significance. The leaders also discussed working together on areas of collaboration within the CARICOM setup.
Dr Drew has announced the intent to visit Guyana and speak to the Prime Minister so that the upcoming interactions can be more fruitful. Dr Drew asserted that he understands and acknowledges the place that Guyana holds within regional politics.
Geopolitically speaking, Guyana has positioned itself as a major regional partner capable of supporting collective advancement.
Guyana has pledged their commitment to working closely with the Caribbean Community for the advancements of regional goals.
In line with this, Dr Terrance Drew once again highlighted the importance of face to face interactions at this time in the history of the nation. The Chairman of the Caribbean Community believes that stronger bilateral ties reinforce the wider CARICOM framework.
This meeting is scheduled to be held in St Kitts Basseterre, starting Tuesday. The details of the event have been shared by the Caribbean Community official channels suggest that more than 90% of the leaders across the region will be attending the regular meeting. The organization has shared that many of the leaders will also start arriving on the island in preparation for the event.
After concluding his visit to Guyana, Dr Terrance Drew also met with the Secretary General of the CARICOM. Secretary General Carla Barnett is also expected to attend the meeting in her capacity as the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community.
With less than two days to go for the summit, the region is preparing for a major sit down where the leaders will be discussing concerns and issues that they face as nations and approach them with the solidarity of the region behind them.
