Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health, has called on the male population of the country to get themselves tested for prostate cancer. The Prime Minister made this call during the national assembly sitting which took place on Friday.

Dr Drew also called on the women of the country to make sure that they get regular testing and screening done to detect cancer. According to PM Drew, statistics suggest that woman have a higher possibility of getting a cancer diagnosis.

However, a higher number of men have lost their lives to prostate cancer. This may be because men do not get themselves tested and are less likely to get a diagnosis at an early stage.

The Prime Minister said that the JNF General Hospital has a urologist who can help them in getting the tests. Dr Drew has clarified that the tests for prostate cancer involves a blood test, and in some cases can also include a rectal exam.

The Prime Minister has clarified that while he understands this can sound scary to many people, it is not painful for the people. He added that the tests being done will help save the lives of the people. The officials have shared that the members of the community will be able to learn more and prevent the loss of their lives.

The officials have shared that the large number of lives that are lost to prostate cancer can be reduced drastically if the people of the island get regular tests done. The Prime Minister said that men over the age of 40 years old must talk to their doctors and get a prostate examination done.

The officials have shared that the members of the community have to take concrete steps to keep their health at the forefront. Dr Drew said that in several cases prostate cancer can be cured especially in the event that the diagnosis can be done at an early stage and treatment can start.
