Jacinth Henry-Martin OBE, Ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS) participated in the 56th Regular Session of the General assembly of the OAS. The session took place in Panama, at the ATLAPA Convention Centre on Tuesday afternoon, June 23, 2026.
The 56th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) was a three day event which was held from June 22 to 24, 2026. The theme of the three day assembly was “The Americas United on the Bicentennial of the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama”. The overarching topic for the gathering was, “Multilateralism in Defense of Democracy: Hemispheric Security and Stability in the American States”.
The 56th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) opened on June 22 with an opening session. The second day of the event was marked by plenary sessions and dialogues. The last day of the session concluded with the final plenary session including election, reports and closing addresses. Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin addressed the session and talked about the geopolitical challenges faced by the world.
She said, “At a time when global challenges increasingly transcend borders, multilateral cooperation remains the most effective means through which states, large, small alike, can advance means through, uphold shared values and ensure that no nation faces its challenges alone.
During the session she also talked about the federation’s ongoing efforts to become the world’s first sustainable island state. She shared that it reflects the administration is committed to advance St. Kitts and Nevis’s Sustainable Island State Agenda through innovation, resilience, sustainability and inclusiveness. The Ambassador also shared her views on the growing threat of climate change that the world is facing presently. She also used the platform to talk about climate justice and financing reforms
Martin stated, “Climate Justice requires greater access to concessional financing reform of the international financial architecture, and recognition that vulnerability, not income alone, must inform development support”.
