The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew attended the Climate Mobility Forum with international counterparts. The event opened on June 18, 2026 and the world leaders came together to discuss Climate Mobility Principles.
During this event, PM Drew called for climate justice and meaningful partnerships. He also urged the international partners to work towards including the locals in local communities in shaping climate solutions.
The event was organised by Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) in collaboration with the Robert Bosch Stiftung. The forum seeks to bring greater consensus for climate mobility and adaptation. The Prime Minister attended the event alongside leaders from other small nations and island states including Palau, the Marshall Islands, Honduras, Tuvalu, and the Maldives.
All the national leaders who attended the event advocated for climate justice.
While addressing the group of international leaders and lawmakers, Dr Drew said that climate change is fundamentally a matter of justice. This is especially true for small island nations like St Kitts and Nevis.
In his address, Dr Drew said those who contribute the least to climate change are often among those most affected by its consequences. The Prime Minister used the example of fishermen who are losing their livelihoods to the climate crisis to expand upon the severity of the situation.
He believes that the burden that the Caribbean region is carrying is disproportionate and must be addressed.
Dr Drew also added “We are not seeking charity, we are not seeking pity. We are seeking justice and partnership, which are fundamental to dealing with these issues,” Dr Drew was the only leader from the Caribbean to attend the Climate Mobility Forum.
This highlights the prominent place that St Kitts and Nevis continues to command in the global climate discussion. At the same time, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew’s attendance also reiterated the nation’s commitment to advancing practical, people-centered approaches that protect livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and secure a sustainable future for generations
