Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis met with a series of high-level officials and ambassadors from various parts of Europe during his visit to Brussels, Belgium. He has been meeting with several important officials at the European Union.
According to the Prime Minister, these meetings are aimed towards strengthening St Kitts and Nevis’ relationships. The meetings will also help in creating new opportunities for the country through discussions and diplomacy.
Dr Drew met with Delphine Pronk, Managing Director for the Americas at the European External Action Service. Other senior officials at the European Union were also present during this meeting.
As a part of their discussions, PM Drew, highlighted the value of dialogue, cooperation, and partnership. The Prime Minister said that international cooperation can play a very important role in addressing shared challenges and advancing common goals.
The Prime Minister said that St kitts and Nevis has been a well respected nation in the international stage despite their size. He reaffirmed that he will continue to represent the nation with dignity, purpose and vision for progress.
The Prime Minister also met with Keon Doens, Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships. While conversing with Director General Deons, PM Drew highlighted their commitment to strong partnerships, shared ambition, and forward-thinking cooperation.
Dr Terrance Drew talked about his vision for a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous future for St Kitts and Nevis. He also highlighted that engagements such as these can help the nation in pursuing their development goals.
While on his trip to Europe, Dr Drew also met with leading European energy companies, financiers, and private sector partners. The aim of these meetings was to explore opportunities that can help accelerate St Kitts and Nevis’s geothermal energy ambitions.
The cooperation and partnership between the two regions can help in strengthening St Kitts and Nevis’s journey toward energy independence.
The Prime Minister also joined several European Union officials for a productive working lunch. The attendants included Fiona Ramsey, who serves as the EU Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Laura Carpini, Deputy Director‑General Global Affairs, Director Latin America & Caribbean, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Italy, Riccardo Rossi, Member of Cabinet, who is also the Commissioner for International Partnerships. The meeting was also joined by Olga Baus Gibert, who is the Deputy Head of Unit, Latin America & Caribbean, DG INTPA.
The working lunch served as an opportunity for the leaders to explore opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the Caribbean and the EU. The areas under discussion were: Renewable energy, Geothermal development, Cybersecurity, Digital Transformation, regional connectivity, and sustainable economic growth.
