St Kitts and Nevis will celebrate 39 years of independence in the upcoming month. The Independence Committee is entrusted with the responsibility of planning the activities for the 39th Anniversary of Independence of the Federation of St. Kitts. Nevis.
The Independence committee convened its first meeting today (August 26) at the Sands Complex. Permanent Secretary Sharon Rattan presided over the meeting as the chairperson of the Committee.
Government officials, including permanent secretaries, representatives from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Office of the Premier were in attendance at the meeting. Representatives from the Private sector were also present.
Some of the main activities on the Independence calendar include the Prime Minister’s Lecture Series, the National Heroes Day Observance Ceremony, the Independence State Church Service, and the Independence Day Military Parade.
The public will be informed of the complete Calendar of Activities when it is finalized.
The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis has recently elected a new government after the dissolution of the former Unity Government. After the elections hosted by the country on the first Friday of the month, the country has unequivocally chosen the leaders of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party to represent them in the country’s general assembly.
St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party managed to attain an undisputed victory in the country’s general election, having won in six out of eight constituencies that the political party had contested for.
The leader of the political party, Dr Terrance M Drew, was sworn in as the prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis on the day following the general elections.
His Ministerial cabinet was sworn in a week later.
The SKNLP administration has been meeting their respective ministries and colleagues and has already started to work for the country’s development.
