The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew provided an update on his health on September 13, 2026. He addressed the nation live and thanked the people of St Kitts and Nevis for their prayers and well wishes throughout his recovery. The Prime Minister shared the details of his health and confirmed that he suffered a stroke.
Further in his address, he assured the people of St Kitts and Nevis that he is out of the hospital and in active rehabilitation. Talking about his diagnosis, Dr Drew said, “This stroke was a dissection of one of the arteries in the back of my brain called the vertebral artery.”
He also confirmed that the effect of the stroke on his mind and body has been contained well. Dr Drew said, “Physically, I can move all my limbs, speak well. My mental state, my coordination, my intelligence have been good.”
He also added that he has been undergoing occupational therapy and rehabilitation in Florida and is doing better than his ailment would suggest. He also highlighted that the administration of St. Kitts and Nevis is working uninterrupted with all the workload delegated properly.
Dr Drew talked about the continuity of the governance in St. Kitts and Nevis as he recovered. The Prime Minister said that this administration is a mature and serious administration. We have multiple contingency plans in place, from the worst-case scenario to a minor disruption.
He explained that while he was in the JNF General Hospital on the first day after his condition became apparent, he spoke to the members of his Cabinet. He was able to delegate responsibilities and explained the plan to them.
The Prime Minister also confirmed that he has been monitoring the administration of the country and the cabinet ministers are doing a very good job. He also said that the government has been functioning extremely well.

He said, “Whatever the scenario, we are ready to deal with it as a mature administration.”
Furthermore, the Prime Minister also thanked the doctors at the JNF General Hospital who were able to help him on the island and provide support. He also thanked the medical team in Martinique and in Florida for helping in his recovery.
The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to all the people who expressed their best wishes and made prayers for his recovery.
