St Kitts and Nevis Begins Nurses Week Celebrations with March and Church Service

St. Kitts and Nevis is commemorating Nurses Week in honor of some of the most important  stakeholders of the Healthcare sector of the country. The commemoration started with a march across Basseterre, which brought together members of the nursing fraternity.

The nurses from across the island, accompanied by the members of the healthcare fraternity and the administration, marched to the Zion Moravian Church in Basseterre. At the church, the members of the nursing fraternity, healthcare sector, representatives of the government, attended a special church service. 

The March and the church service were both hosted on Monday, May 11, 2026. The people honored the nurses across the island for their dedication, compassion, resilience, and life-saving contributions. 

After the church service was attended by the Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd. Also in attendance during the celebration was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Curtis Martin. 

Other distinguished attendants who commemorated the beginning of the Nurses week included Principal Nursing Officer, Dr. Rondalyn Dennis-Bradshaw. The representatives of the St. Kitts Nurses Association also attended the march and the church service in honor of their peers across the federation.

The nurses working across the federation have made significant contributions to the health sector of the country. The  Nurses Week celebration moved forward with the official commemoration of the International Nurses Day

The federation of St. Kitts and Nevis came forward to collectively appreciate the fraternity of the country. The Prime Minister and Minister of Health of the country, Dr Terrance Drew, took to his social to extend his best wishes to the nurses of the island

In his post, Dr Drew paid his tribute to them for their dedication, compassion and sacrifice of the nurses of St. Kitts and Nevis and everywhere in the world.

Dr Drew said, “Nursing is a calling rooted in care and humanity. Every day, our nurses stand on the frontlines of healthcare, comforting families, saving lives and strengthening communities across our Federation.”

Further the Prime Minister said that his administration remains dedicated to advancing the nursing profession and strengthening the country’s healthcare system
