St Kitts and Nevis and Guyana have signed three Memoranda of Understanding in crucial areas of cooperation on Wednesday, April 8 2026. The MoUs will play a significant role in strengthening the bilateral relationships between the two nations.
Prior to the Prime Minister’s visit, in a press conference which took place on March 30, he had spoken about the visit. He had, in this press conference confirmed that Guyana and St Kitts and Nevis will be signing a series of Memoranda of Understanding.
In the same press conference, Dr Drew had indicated that food security would be a major item on their agenda during this visit. One of the Memorandum of Understanding that the two nations signed was related to agriculture and food security.
The other two Memoranda were regarding government modernization and defense and security cooperation.
During the same visit, Dr Terrance Drew also formalized the membership of St Kitts and Nevis in the Global Biodiversity Alliance. This is an international initiative launched by President of Guyana Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The aim of the alliance is to safeguard biodiversity and promote sustainable development.
The relationship between the two nations is rooted in shared history, regional solidarity, and people-to-people ties. The areas where the cooperation has been discussed within the framework of the MoUs are being designed to support both long and short term benefits to the people of the island.
Dr Terrance Drew commented on the Agriculture and Food security MoU and highlighted the importance of increasing food production locally. He also talked about reducing dependence on external markets, particularly as the nation and world sees rising global food prices and supply chain disruptions.
On this note he highlighted that the growing agriculture output of Guyana presents an opportunity for St Kitts and Nevis to benefit. At the same time the Prime Minister noted that they are looking at ways to improve local production through technical support from Guyana.
Another important area of cooperation between the two nations was government modernization. PM Drew welcomed Guyana’s offer to support St Kitts and Nevis in leveraging technology to improve governance, project oversight, and decision-making.
