Prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew is currently in Colombia for the 4th summit of heads of state and/or government of the community of Latin American and The Caribbean and the European Union.
The event serves as a platform the leaders of CELAC and EU to engage with one other and discuss national and international development. On day one of the CELAC-EU Summit the leaders who are in attendance came together for plenary sessions discussing the future of the CELAC-EU partnership.
The topics which were discussed on the plenary sessions topics which were discussed on the plenary sessions included international peace and security and sustainable development global cooperation climate resilience and democratic stability.
During Day One Dr. Terrance Drew will deliver a national statement on behalf of St. Kitts and Nevis. In his address he will reinforce his commitment to helping Caribbean remain a zone of peace. He will also highlight how Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are threatened by climate change.
He will ask the international community to take action this is urgent for the survival and continued prosperity of the small island nations. Dr. Drew has been advocating for climate financing and urgent action on climate change at every international platform including the UN. His national address on the first day of the CELAC-EU summit is expected to cover similar topics.
The recent devastation caused by hurricane Meliss in Jamaica will serve as a recent example of how important global solidarity remains in helping nations rebuild in the aftermath of calamity like the hurricane.
Dr. Terrance Drew will also highlight St. Kitts and Nevis’ Sustainable Island State Agenda at the international platform. He will discuss how the agenda has positioned the country as a leader in resilience in national transformation and environmental stewardship.
St. Kitts and Nevis is the smallest sovereign nation in the western hemisphere, there attendance at this international summit highlights their commitment to being heard at the same level as some of the biggest nations in the world.
