The opposition backed media outlets are painting a positive event in the life of a hardworking Kerry Williams-Tuckett in negative light. Matron Kerry Williams-Tuckett recently retired from service after years of working at the JNF General Hospital.
After more than three decades of service to the people of St Kitts and Nevis and mentoring several generations of nurses at the Primary healthcare organisation, Matron Kerry has sought retirement from public service. The healthcare officers and nurses who have learned and worked under her guidance for years have also bid the matron a farewell.
While the event is undoubtedly an emotional point in the journey of Matron Kerry Williams-Tuckett, it is not an opportunity to spread negativity. The nursing team, according to all healthcare stakeholders, is the most important asset of the nation’s health sector.
The Prime Minister of the country, Dr Terrance Drew has in fact also called nurses the backbone of St Kitts and Nevis Healthcare. The nurses of the nation are deserving of respect and should not be turned into a political tool to further any narratives or negativity.
However, an opposition party backed news organization has done exactly that with the announcement of Matron Kerry’s retirement. The nursing officer has been an asset to the country’s healthcare industry for the last three decades.
She has also worked with countless other officers to make them proficient in the field during her tenure as a working nurse. However, after a long service she is entitled to take her retirement and use her time in different pursuits which suit her.
The people of St Kitts and Nevis continue to respect the nursing officer however they are also happy to bid farewell to her as she moves on to a different chapter of her life. Her whole life, she has cultivated several bonds during her years of service who have all paid tribute to her unrelenting spirit and determination.
Using her well earned retirement as a reason to attack the whole healthcare structure of the country is extremely disrespectful for her legacy. All the healthcare issues which are cropping up in the country are being systematically dealt with by the administration of the country.
Using a hardworking healthcare worker to not only further an agenda, but also cause panic is extremely wrong. Some media outlets are equating this retirement to an exodus of nurses and healthcare officers when she had chosen the time of her own retirement.
This comparison is misleading and panic inducing as well as conceals the fact that many steps have been taken by the Ministry of Health to promote nursing education.
The officers have shared that she has left for her pre retirement vacation on August 22, 2025 and will formally retire on November 1, 2025. She will be missed as the director of Institutional Nursing Services.
