Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley has taken the responsibility to dispel the misinformation that is going around the social media and information centers regarding the Special Sustainability Zone Authorisation Bill. The effect of the bill on the island of Nevis has been under question by the people of the various communities of Nevis.
The people are getting panicked about having their lands and ownership snatched due to the misinformation that is spreading across the island. The Premier of Nevis shared that he had been approached by people with some questions stemming from this misinformation.
As such, Premier of Nevis took to a public social media platform, Facebook to dispel the rumours which are going around on the internet as well as communities. One of the concerns which has been raised was that the people would lose their lands and the other was that the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis will have control over the lands in Nevis.
The Premier has clarified that both these assumptions are wrong and that the Nevis Island Administration will have complete control on the land use under the Special Sustainability Zones.
The federal government has clarified that they will consult with the NIA on all the proposals which come to them regarding any new businesses in Nevis under the Special Sustainability Zones. The final decisions regarding these proposals will be taken by the officers and stakeholders of the Nevis Island Administration.
The federal government will not have any sway over what proposals are accepted in the special sustainability zones when it comes to Nevis. The administration can make suggestions however the NIA will do their own procedures and checks before accepting or rejecting any proposals.
This suggests that the land of Nevis will remain safe and will not fall under either the control of the administration or the businesses in question. The leaders of the opposition in NIA have also raised concerns regarding the bill and called it a measure of land grabbing.
However, the Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley has clarified that the facts are not in the way the people are presenting. It is the responsibility of the people to confirm the facts from credible sources before believing noise.
