Twenty eight students from across St Kitts and Nevis received scholarships to study in Taiwan on Friday, August 15, 2025. The scholarships were part of the nation’s collaboration with the Republic of China (Taiwan)
The number of students who were honored with these scholarships was record breaking in terms of previous editions of the scholarship programme. 28 students are all set to pursue tertiary-level studies at universities in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The presentation ceremony for the scholarships was hosted at Palm’s Court Gardens on Friday in the presence of several students, teachers, parents and government representatives. The scholarships were presented in two distinct groups for the students of the country.
25 students received scholarships through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Scholarship Programme. Meanwhile the rest of the three students were awarded under the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Scholarship Programme.
The handover event was attended by several officials and leaders of the country including the Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew. The Prime Minister’s wife, Mrs. Diani Prince-Drew and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr Geoffrey Hanley were also present at the event.
The newly appointed Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Federation, Edward Tao was also present at the scholarship handover. The Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Naeemah Hazelle, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Lisa Romayne Pistana were also present at the event.
The event was also attended by some of the senior government officials and many proud family members of the awardees. The record number of scholarships reflects the deepening partnership between St Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan, as well as the shared commitment to empowering the nation’s youth through education.
The officials have shared that the members of the community are delighted that the students are getting the opportunity to pursue their higher education with the help of partnerships from international partners.
