Constitutional Tribunal of Peru ordered the release of opposition leader Keiko Fujimori, leading to objections in the capital city Lima. The top court of Peru decided to release Fujimori with four votes in favour versus three votes against her release said body’s president Ernesto Blume at a press briefing.

Fujimori is one of Peru’s most influential politicians but has undergone remarkable destruction since her detainment in October 2018.

Keiko Fujimori who is the daughter of Peru’s former president, Alberto Fujimori and leader of the opposition party, was imprisoned last year for alleged money laundering and receiving unlawful donations from Brazilian architecture company Odebrecht.

After her release, several protestors gathered outside the courtroom to protest against the release of Fujimori. Fights burst out amid police and protesters, as some of them tossed stones and bottles at police. As per sources, the protests were coordinated by youngsters through various social media platforms.

While around 200 followers of Fujimori also aggregated in the Peruvian capital to celebrate her release.

The leader has been serving an eighteen months pre-trial sentence since October 2018. Keiko Fujimori’s father, former President Alberto is also serving 25 years of punishment for human rights violations and extortion.
