Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew accompanied by Public Infrastructure Minister Konris G M Maynard and the contractor of road works project, Alexis Hazel, made a visit to the St Peters Road Rehabilitation site to evaluate the ongoing work on Wednesday, 14 November, 2024.
The St Peters Road Project is important to the Government as it enhances their commitment to enhancing transportation networks in the nation’s fastest-growing technology.
The St Peters Main Road serves as a main route for the residents and travellers, connecting the rapidly expanding St Peters area to Basseterre and other regions. Knowing the vitality of this project, the government has prioritized its work to address the increasing the traffic and to improve safety and accessibility for all the users of the route.
Significantly, during the visit, Prime Minister Drew, who is also the resident of St Peters, expressed his delight and satisfaction with the progress and the work done so far. He noted that he is very pleased with the advancements made on this massive undertaking.
He mentioned that this road leads to the fastest-growing area in St. Kitts and one of the largest outsides of Basseterre in terms of population. Not addressing this road would suffocate the movement of people, affecting their lives in several ways.
Minister Konris G M Maynard provided insights into the project’s scope and the planning that is involved in it. He explained about the initial designing of the roads and about the complexities of the underground infrastructure.
Notably, the rehabilitation project extends from the airport roundabout to the Ogees, encompassing the road surfaces, pedestrian walking paths and more.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the efforts that the Ministry of Public Works and the contractor, hazel of Rock and Dirt, have put following the timeline of the project. He also reassured residents that the project is on schedule and once it is completed, they would be “immensely proud” of the work done.
