Basseterre: SKELEC (St. Kitts Electricity Co. Ltd) will begin a load reduction exercise on Tuesday due to a fault in one of its generators, which leads to a shortfall in generation capacity at Needsmust Power Plant. The exercise will result in a series of power outages in some areas.
The electricity department informed the customers to be prepared for upcoming situation and pay attention to the social media pages, media outlets and websites for the load reduction schedule for the next day.
Notably, the Generation teams are working dedicatedly to increase the capacity as soon as possible. SKELEC took to its official social media handle (Facebook) to share the update of power outage with the general public.
“The St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd. Will begin a load reduction exercise on Tuesday 21st May 2024. This exercise will include a series of scheduled outages to account for reduced generation capacity at our Needsmust Power Plant,” added electricity company.
Following are the time scheduled for power outage according to the locations:
- Tabernacle Village to Newton Ground – 8:00 AM
- Bird Rock to Calypso Bay – 1:00 PM
- Cabbage Tree Housing Cayon to Estridge Estate – 12:30 PM
- Frigate Bay – 5:30 PM
- Conaree to Half Moon – 5:00 PM
- Keys Village to Cayon Village – 10:30 PM
SKELEC will take every necessary precaution to save the consumer appliances from any damage outage. The officials also encouraged the consumers to be cautioned and safeguard their equipment and appliances all the time.
The officials of St. Kitts Electricity Co. Ltd apologize for the inconvenience, which will be cause to the residents due to load reduction exercise.
