Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: De’Cheynelle Thomas has etched her name in history by winning gold in the U17 400m category, with an exceptional time of 56.79 in Whitsuntide Games. The competition was held at Kirani James Athletic Stadium in Grenada.
Thomas, who is also a brand Ambassador of Ginseng Up becomes one of the fastest athletes to complete the race in such a short time, following this victory.
Sharing the news about her victory, the Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins expressed his pride for Thomas for bringing laurels to the nation. He took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to congratulate her for winning gold.
“This achievement ranks her among the fastest in the region and the world. Well done, De’Cheynelle,” added Sports Minister.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas also congratulated the athlete on her remarkable win. She won the gold medal just days after celebrating her 15th birthday.
“De’Cheynelle Thomas won Gold in the U17 400m at the Whitsuntide Games in Grenada, days after celebrating her 15th birthday. Happy Birthday (belated) De’Cheynelle. Congratulations on your most recent achievement.
De’Cheynelle is the Ginseng Up brand Ambassador. Continue to soar and stay focused,” added Minister Douglas.
In addition, another milestone added to the list of achievements of St. Kitts and Nevis with the Akanye Samuel-Francis being the second fastest athlete in the competition. He secured impressive second position with a time of 49.59 seconds.

The St. Kitts and Nevis track and field ream was headed by Coach Timothy Morton. The qualifying teams will a ticket to World Athletics U20 Junior Championship, which will be held in Lima, Peru in August.
Whitsuntide Games is organised by Grenada Athletic Association (GAA) annually, which serves as a platform to athletes to qualify for major international track and several field meets.
