The Minister of State for Youth Empowerment of St Kitts and Nevis, Isalean Phillip, shared the government’s vision as she engaged with students as part of a new initiative called the Minister’s Caravan.
High school students throughout St Kitts learnt more about the government’s efforts to transform the island into a sustainable island nation.
The minister’s caravan takes the minister of state and other officials of the youth enforcement department to various schools, where ÕIS and other issues affecting young people were discussed.
Reverend Isalean Phillip interacts with students, the interactive event began on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Archibald High School in Washington. At the event, the high school students joined their peers from Basseterre High School.
Minister of State Phillip shared critical information about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN to be achieved by 2023. She mentioned that the government’s focus is improving the conditions to create prosperity for people and the planet.
Students are expected to learn how the Ministry of Sustainable Development, under the leadership of Dr Joyelle Clarke, leads the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The efforts of other ministries such as the Ministry of Agriculture, utilities and other ministries were also discussed.
The Minister of State was also able to answer questions about the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, improving recycling and waste management, and increasing renewable energy.
The Minister’s Caravan continued on Wednesday and will end on Thursday, November 16. The discussions will end on Friday, November 17, with the hosting of the Ministerial Youth Forum in the CUNA Conference Hall.
All these gestures are part of the Youth Month activities and celebrations.
