St Kitts and Nevis celebrated the Centenarian Population of the country on world centenarian day. The twin island federation is home to a total of 10 centenarians. The Centenarian Population in St Kitts and Nevis consists of the following members:
- Ruby Thomas of Pitcairn Street, New Town (age 102)
- George David of Stapleton Village (age 101)
- Agnes Kelsick of Fortlands (age 101)
- Angeline Revan of Sandy Point (age 101)
- Frances Ann Prince of Cayon (age 100)
- Esther Harris of St. Peters (age 101)
The population on the island of Nevis consists of the following centenarians
- Elizer Jeffers (age 103)
- Mary Browne (age 106)
- Bertram Roach (age 100)
- Clarence Ezekiel Henderson Williams (age 100)
To celebrate the elderly population of the federation, Governor General of Marcella Liburd spent her day on Wednesday, May 31, with the elderly people of the country. The country’s governor-general took the opportunity to visit all the centenarians living in St Kitts and celebrating the day with them.
The gesture of the Governor General came as a part of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities’ commitment to the cause of better lives for the elderly populations. Accordingly, a team from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities accompanied the Governor General as she visited all the members of the Cenetarian community on the island.
As St Kitts and Nevis observed the Cenetarian Day, Governor General Marcella Liburd and the team from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities visited 102-year-old Ruby Thomas, 101-year-old Esther Harris, 102-year-old George David, 101-year-old Angelina Revan, 100-year-old Frances Ann Prince, and 101-year-old Agnes Kelsick.
Other dignitaries, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Ageing et al, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, joined in the celebration with the centenarians. Meanwhile, Governor General Marcella Liburd presented a bouquet of flowers to each centenarian. Gift baskets were also presented to them by students on behalf of the ministry.
