The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, hosted his monthly press conference on March 30, 2023. During the event, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the members of his federal cabinet. All the Prime Minister’s cabinet members provided significant updates about the workings of their ministries.
The Prime Minister’s Press Conference was significant in several ways. This was the first government event, the proceedings of which were hand signed to benefit the deaf community of St Kitts and Nevis. The Prime Minister recently met with the differently abled St Kitts and Nevis, community. During the meeting, Prime Minister Drew was informed that the community feels left out of the critical discussions and announcements that the government makes.
Dr Terrance Drew committed during the said meeting on March 16, 2023. he would work on addressing the issue. Only a fortnight later, the Prime Minister’s Press Conference served as the perfect platform to start the initiative. Through this initiative, Prime Minister Drew and his cabinet of Ministers, are taking another step towards promoting inclusivity for all the people in the federation.
According to the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, the people of the differently abled community have expressed that they need the opportunity to get duly informed. To address this concern, Prime Minister arranged for the complete Press conference on Thursday, March 30 to be hand signed.
Michelle Jacobs took the responsibility to hand sign during the press conference. Jacobs is a known face in the federation as she took up a similar responsibility during the pandemic. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew asserted during the press conference that the initiative is a progressive step in ensuring that the population of St Kitts and Nevis, irrespective of their varying abilities, that they too can share with us, their government, in the advancement of our nation.
The SKNIS has announced that they expect the upcoming parliamentary sitting headed by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew will also be hand signed for the benefit of the differently abled people of St Kitts and Nevis.
