The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, hosted the second press conference for their tenure. Members of his Cabinet accompanied Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew for the Press Conference. The Prime Minister delivered his opening remarks for the press conference. He revealed that the promises made by the SKNLP Administration are based on seven foundational pillars:
- Food security
- Green energy transition
- Economic diversification
- Sustainable Industries
- Creative economy
- Covid-19 recovery
- Social protection
He also stated that his cabinet of ministers would update the media regarding the development of their respective ministries. Prime Minister Drew further noted that the government has pledged to govern with transparency, integrity and accountability. The Prime Minister also indicated that they want to ensure that every policy, plan and project is for the betterment of all.
Following this, the prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Drew divulged some details of developments in his ministries. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew is responsible for National Security, Social Security, Citizenship by investment programme and health.
Talking about the Citizenship by Investment programme of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Drew Drew revealed that the programme is going through a transformation under the leadership of the newly appointed head of the CIU, Michael martin. At the same time, he also thanked the former CEO of the Citizenship By Investment Unit, Les Khan, for his contributions.
Meanwhile, he talked about Buckley’s uprising, which will complete eighty years on January 30th. He stated that the incident marked a turning point in our social, economic and political journey to self-determination and nationhood.
Talking about the ministry of health, Dr Terrance Drew reiterated that the government understands the workers’ struggle in the health department. The government also acknowledges the sacrifices that it made throughout history. He especially mentioned the name of the Nevis hero, Joseph N France, whose name stands proudly in the country’s General Hospital.
The Prime Minister noted that the institution has its strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, he promised to make JNF General the best secondary and tertiary care hospital in St Kitts and Nevis. Dr Terrance Drew extended his gratitude towards the workers and employees working in the health institution for whatever roles they play in the hospital.
He also noted that the ministry is open to all forms of criticism and recommendation concerning health and healthcare services. The Minister of Health also recounted that the healthcare force of St Kitts and Nevis faced several challenges during the pandemic.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew noted that the healthcare workers put their own lives and the lives of their families on the line while serving the country during the pandemic. He told the people during his speech that the government acknowledges the extent to which this would have affected them. In light of this view, the Prime minister applauded them and said they must be honoured.
In the opening statement, Prime Minister updated the media regarding the new developments in the ministry of health under his leadership and the leadership of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party. He also reiterated his commitment towards developing healthcare institutions in the country.
