St Kitts and Nevis: The Department of Marine Resources St Kitts and Nevis has officially announced the calendar of week of activities for the World Fisheries Day and Marine Expo to celebrate the global World Fisheries Day.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Marinee Resources and Fisheries of St Kitts shared the calendar on their official Facebook account and noted that in the recognition of World Fisheries Day that is celebrated globally on November 21st, the Department of Marine Resources is hosting a week of exciting activities.
The week-long celebration will commence on Sunday, November 17th, 2024 and will conclude on next Sunday, November 24th, 2024.
The Marine Department has urged the citizens to join them in celebrating the importance of the sustainable fisheries and marine conservation.
The detailed list of activities for the week-long celebration of the World Fisheries Day is as follows:
- Sunday: November 17, 2024 – Church Service (Nevis)
- Monday, November 18, 2024 – Federal and NIA Ministers’ Message| Media Day| Aquaculture Discussion (Nevis)
- Tuesday, November 19, 2024 – DMR Beautification Day | School Visits | Fisheries Complex (Nevis)
- Wednesday, November 20, 2024 – Staff Gathering | Biodegradable Fish Pot Workshop (St Kitts)
- Thursday, November 21, 2024 – SKNMMA Tour | Community Outreach (St Kitts and Nevis)
- Friday, November 22, 2024 – Wear Blue Day | Fish Festival (Nevis)
- Saturday, November 23, 2024 – Beach Cleanup (St Kitts)
- Sunday, November 24, 2024 – Fish Festival & Expo (St Kitts)
The Department of Marine Resources also mentioned that World Fisheries Day shines light on the essential role of healthy oceans and fisheries for food security and community livelihoods. “During this week, let’s honour the dedication of our fishers.”
