The office of the President of Finland said the USA and Russia would hold a round of nuclear arms control talks in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, on Monday to follow up on negotiations in Austria this summer.
The office of President Sauli Niinisto said on a statement on Sunday that the round of discussions nuclear weapons and on strategic stability between the United States and Russia, which began in Vienna in the summer, would continue in Helsinki on Monday.
The office said that nuclear arms negotiators from Moscow and Washington met a previous time in Finland in 2017.
The statement adding that Niinisto would meet both representatives after the talks and said that Finland welcomes the negotiators, this time, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and US Ambassador Marshall Billingslea.
The talks are meant for producing a new agreement to replace the New START treaty that expires in February, the last remaining pact constraining the arsenals of the world’s two major nuclear powers.
According to Russian news agency TASS, the previous round of consultations between Billingslea and Ryabkov was held in Vienna on August 17-18.
