Trinidad and Tobago: A female relative from Princes Town of Trinidad and Tobago reportedly injected a crying baby in her care with a poisonous substance to make her stop crying, after which the infant died.
The relative is in police custody for the murder of the nine-month-old baby.Allegedly, The incident occurred in the evening of Wednesday, September 21, at Princes Town, Trinidad.
According to the preliminary reports, the relative, who is a resident of Busy Corner, New Grant, Trinidad and Tobago, got frustrated with her girl’s uncontrollable crying and injected the poisonous substance to stop her.
After the administration of the poison to the nine-month-old, the infant became unresponsive and was rushed to the Princes Town District Health Facility at 3:15 PM on Wednesday.
She was checked and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, Trinidad and Tobago, where she succumbed to the effects of the poson in the evening at 6:30 PM
The nine-month-old was given an insecticide.
The woman also confessed in front of the police officials and is said to be in police custody.
A nurse contacted the police officials around 3:15 PM as the baby was unresponsive.
When the police authorities arrived at the hospital, they were greeted by the relative, who confessed to her crime.
She told the police officials that she was at her home in New Grant, Trinidad and Tobago with the nine-month-old girl and her own child of 10-year-old.
The woman stated that at around 12:20 PM, the baby started crying uncontrollably, after which the lady became frustrated and fed her with Malathion insecticide using a syringe.
She left the infant on the bed after injecting her with the insecticide. Sometime later, she found her unresponsive, and she called the ambulance to take the baby to the health facility.
Police officials have recovered a syringe, a baby bottle, and a 250 ml bottle with the markings Malathion at the woman’s home.
Police officials of the Princes Town Police Station and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3 are investigating the crime.
