The family of the 14-year-old rape victim from a high school in Oracabessa, Jamaica, have decided to remove their ward from the public school system.
The victim was raped by a male wearing a khaki uniform The girl was drugged and raped, following which the culprit left her unconscious in the girl’s bathroom of her high school, only to be discovered by another student.
Outrage over the alleged rape of the girl has been on the rise ever since the reports of the unfortunate event reached the public. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has decided to pull the child out of the public school system.
A spokesperson from the victim’s family has informed some sources that the family is reluctant to send the girl back to school. The spokesperson added that the victim is still extremely traumatized and refuses to return to school. The spokesperson stated, “The family is fearful that, if she is sent to another school, the incident may happen again,”
The family of the girl have planned to homeschool her.
In the meantime, The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) confirmed that it had received a report of the incident.
“As a principle, we don’t give the public information about rape cases concerning children. We don’t give details about it. The most I can tell you is that we have received a report, and the matter is being investigated,” said Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit.
She added that she is unaware of anyone being arrested in connection with the incident. She also stated that It is also unclear if the perpetrator is studying at the school where the young girl was allegedly attacked.
Earlier this week, a source close to the victim’s family stated that a male in a khaki uniform reportedly held a pair of scissors at the student’s neck and forced her into a bathroom, where he allegedly raped her during the school’s afternoon shift.
Another student reportedly found the victim naked on the bathroom floor. The first respondents, after the incident, took her to Port Maria Hospital for treatment.
