Twelve people, including nine nurses who had recently arrived from Ghana, have tested positive for COVID-19.
They have tested positive in the tests which were conducted by the Best Dos-Santos Public health Laboratory on Friday.
Dr Kenneth George, Chief Medical Officer, made this announcement during a live media conference on CBC TV yesterday afternoon.
George said that the laboratory had conducted 248 tests on Friday and all other tests except these twelve were negative.
In addition to the nine nurses, 95 persons arrived in Barbados on Thursday, and there is a Barbadian woman who returned to Barbados on July 29 and not June 29 as was announced by George.
A male visitor who had arrived on July 30 and a Barbadian man who arrived in Barbados from the United Kingdom with a negative COVID-19 test, but tested positive when he was tested again for travelling.
He said that the circumstances of the last case are still under investigation.
This would require extensive contact tracing, which the public health teams do daily and the population is aware of it.
He said that surveillance and monitoring would be increased at the designated facilities.
George said that all of them were showing no symptoms and “are likely to be in the recovery phase”, with only one person considered to be in the acute phase.
He said that everyone who tested positive for the virus was placed in isolation at Harrison’s Point immediately.
George said that all of the nurses were sent into a 14-day quarantine.
He also advised that all of the persons who attended the ceremony at the Grantley Adams International Airport, including Jeffrey Bostic, Lisa Cummins, Minister of Health Minister of Tourism executive chairman of the Queen Elizaworkplacesal, to separate themselves from their work places out of an abundance of caution and the Ministry would arrange for their testing.
