The Fourth Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis, Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton passed on to his heavenly abode on July 29, 2023. Following the demise of the prominent political personality and public servant, the government and the people of St Kitts and Nevis have expressed their sincere condolences to the family of Tapley Seaton.
The deceased held a remarkable character and spent many years serving his country. He handled the responsibility of the Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis for more than seven years, from 2015 to 2023. The former governor-general leaves a significant legacy for the country’s people to look up to.
In his long public and national service career, Tapley Seaton held many significant offices. These included the office of the Acting High Court Registrar (1975-1980) and St. Kitts-Nevis Attorney General (1980-1995). Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (GCMG). He also had the distinction of being named Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in 1985.
The fourth governor-general of the country was one of the architects of the national constitution of St Kitts and Nevis. Governor General Tapley Seaton served the nation in several capacities. He was a member of various boards, national committees, and organizations in numerous capacities.
His offices include the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Directorship, St. Kitts Sugar Manufacturing Corporation (SSMC) and Frigate Bay Development Corporation. He was the president of the St. Kitts-Nevis Bar Association, the OECS Bar Association and St Christopher Heritage Society (now called The St. Christopher National Trust);
Vice President of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society and the St. Christopher National Trust. He also served as the Chairman of Cable & Wireless (formerly SKANTEL). Considering the vast contributions of the country’s people, one can note that his passing is grieved not only by his family and loved ones but also by the vast array of people who knew him and worked with him.
