Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, recently took to his social media account to applaud the first female governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, Marcella Liburd, for her accomplishments and contribution to the development of the country.

Notably, St Kitts and Nevis hosted a special ceremony to honour and recognize the remarkable women in St Kitts and Nevis, PM Drew shared some glimpses from the event. The government hosted the ceremony on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

During the event, Prime Minister honoured the first female governor-general of St Kitts and Nevis, Marcella Liburd, with a “ceiling shatter award.” Marcella Liburd, the fifth Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis is the first woman leader to assume the position. Talking about the day’s experience, Dr Terrance Drew shared on his social media account that International Women’s Day ended with a beautiful ceremony honouring several remarkable women who have made significant contributions to the overall development of St Kitts and Nevis. The ceremony was held at the Government House.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, congratulated all the extraordinary women who were recognized for their work in areas such as science; the digital, blue, and green economies.

During the ceremony, Dr Terrance Drew presented the Ceiling Shatter Award to the first female Governor General of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd. According to Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, the newly appointed Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, Marcella Liburd had played a significant role in the advancement of women within St Kitts and Nevis, particularly in her capacity as Minister of Health, Social Services, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs.

Dr Drew noted that she worked for St Kitts and Nevis in all these capacities when the world did not receive the notion of women’s empowerment well. PM Terrance Drew conveyed that Governor General Liburd has indeed shattered quite a few ceilings. She has gained national and regional recognition throughout her career for her significant contributions to gender affairs; and continues to serve with great humility, professionalism, bravery, and passion.

She has remained a constant voice for the less fortunate. Dr Drew asserted that Marcella Liburd is an incredible role model for her country and inspires across the region and generations.
