PM Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, gathered the cabinet ministers on June 27, 2023, to discuss several important issues for the welfare of the residents of St Kitts and Nevis.
James Sutton, the commissioner of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, provides brief information about the current activities in the department. He noted that the Police primarily focus on lower violent crimes, particularly crimes involving firearms.
Commissioner Sutton emphasizes that in crime-prone regions, the Police forces regularly conduct patrolling, and the national security services coordinate resources and intelligence.
He further explained that security forces, with the cooperation of each, successfully managed the security of the recently held St Kitts Music Festival, which ended peacefully, providing entertainment and unforgettable memories to the citizens.
Additionally, it was mentioned that with the approval of the Cabinet, the Ministry of Environment Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment’s “No Plastic Bag Mondays” project would continue to grow. Over the past month, the project has gathered support from the general public, neighbourhood businesses, environmental organizations, and other civil society interest groups.
St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party administration are precisely focused on making the twin-island federation a Sustainable Island State, reducing plastic waste, and protecting the environment. To accomplish this objective, the No Plastic Bag Mondays” initiative will continue until a complete ban on single-use plastics is implemented.
The Cabinet of Ministers also complimented Marsha Henderson, the tourism Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and her team on the 25th anniversary of the St Kitts and Nevis Music Festival organized from June 22 to 24. The three-day festival still receives astonishing reviews from other Caribbean countries and various worldwide nations.
The Cabinet also appreciated St Kitts and Nevis National Football team, nicknamed ‘Sugar Boyz’ for their historic achievement of qualifying in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. For the first time in St Kitts and Nevis’ football history, the Sugar Boyz qualified for CONCACAF Gold Cup and currently competing in the USA.
The Cabinet also appreciates the athletes and coaches from Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis for their outstanding performance at the Berlin 2023 Special Olympics World Games. They announced that the Special Olympians will be greeted as heroes when they return after winning five Gold and four Bronze medals next week.
