The Ministry of Health has announced that they have recorded a significant reduction in the number of in hospital deaths. The Minister of Health, Dr Terrance Drew has highlighted that this number has been going down steadily over the last two years.
This positive development highlights that the people of the island have access to better healthcare facilities. The Prime Minister made this announcement during the national assembly sitting on July 31,
He noted that the statistics are a proof that investments that the country has made in health sector are working. He highlighted that during the second quarter of 2025, the healthcare officials have recorded 104 in hospital deaths.
The authorities have shared that this number has come down from 125, a number which was recorded in 2023 during the same period. In 2024, this number stood at 132 during the second quarter of the year.
The decline of this number by 21 patients when compared to 2023, signals a positive trend in the healthcare sector of the country. The officials have shared that the members of the community have also benefited from the improved health facilities.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has worked in the healthcare sector for nearly two decades. While addressing the national assembly, the Prime Minister Drew said that this is a major milestone.
The Prime Minister added that the in-hospital deaths are decreasing as we speak, emphasizing that this is a ongoing process. The Ministry of Health is actively working on making advancements to the healthcare sector.
The authorities have promised that the development will not stop and more milestones will be achieved. Further, Minister of Health of Health took the opportunity to highlight the role of healthcare workers in achieving this decline in the number of in-hospital deaths in the country.
He praised the doctors, nurses, cleaning staff and support staff who have helped in running the hospital at its best capacity. The officials have also shared that their work is showing in the improving rates of survival.
The government has be making progress in healthcare delivery in St Kitts and Nevis. From the installation of a state of the art MRI Machine, to upgrading equipment at the hospital, the administration is making every possible effort to improve healthcare in the country.
