Manhattan, New York: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew engaged in productive bilateral discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.
The significant discussion was held at the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in New York on September 23, 2024.
PM Drew shared the highlights of the meeting through his social media and confirmed plans to establish an Embassy and Consulate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, marking a vital step forward in fostering diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Significantly, the decision of establishing an Embassy and Consulate was one of the results of the discussion held by the two Ministers on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
While sharing the glimpses of the meeting held in New York, PM Drew noted that their conversation focused on deepening relations, enhancing cooperation across various sectors, and advancing plans to establish an Embassy and Consulate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He also stated that this step emphasises St Kitts and Nevis’ continued efforts to expand its global diplomatic presence and deepen the partnerships in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Drew underscored the strategic importance of this decision as a part of the broader commitment to bolstering international relations with key global partners.
The bilateral talks with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia also revisited the outcomes of the CARICOM-Saudi Summit which was held back in October 2023, and explored direction for future collaboration focusing mainly on sustainability and resilience initiatives.
The Prime Minister also said that the opening of the Embassy and Consulate in Saudi Arabia will represent a milestone in St Kitts and Nevis’ diplomatic and economic strategy.
It is also to be noted that PM Drew was accompanied by Foreign Minister Denzil Douglas, St Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to United Nations Mutryce Williams and Permanent Secretary in Prime Minister’s Office Naeemah Hazelle.
