Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew has signed an agreement with Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC) of Taiwan for the construction of the new climate-smart hospital in the country on Tuesday.

The accord was signed between the leader of twin-island Federation PM Drew and the President pf OECC- Hsiao Yun Yeh (James) at the Office of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and the second signing ceremony was held at the site of the new hospital in Camp’s. The OECC is one of the leading construction companies based in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

PM Drew has always been at the forefront in taking initiatives to serve the people and the health services are always remained his first priority. The construction of the climate-smart hospital is one of those initiatives, which aims to provide the quality medical services to the citizens in the Federation.

The Cabinet Secretary, Marcus Natta said that the project is noteworthy to improve the healthcare and well-being of the nationals. She further added that, “This new hospital is a significant step towards achieving that goal and ensuring that persons have access to quality healthcare.”

As hurricane had caused severe damage to the roads, roofs and infrastructure of St. Kitts and Nevis, this project will emerge as a shield, which will protect the nation’s health infrastructure from the effects of climate change including stronger hurricanes and increased temperatures.

The leader of St. Kitts and Nevis underscored the importance of hospital, especially at the times when the natural disasters hit the country. This monumental accomplishment will surely benefit every citizen of the nation.

“If there’s one institution that should be standing after any significant natural disaster it should be and must be a hospital,” PM Dr Drew stressed.

He expressed his gratitude for the government of China (Taiwan) for their collaboration in the National Hospital Project. He hoped that the partnership between both the nations will foster and they will continue to work for the prosperity of their respective regions.

The Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation also extended a vote of thanks to Leon Natta-Nelson, the Ambassador for ensuring a smooth execution of the agreement ceremony.

He shared the glimpses of the signing ceremony through his official Facebook handle. The people across the region showered their blessings and extended wishes for this new initiative. Some of the comments read as:

While reacting to the post, a person named Chesil Watson commented, “Congratulations to you Hon Dr Terrance Drew and your “A” Team Cabinet for starting the new hospital in a short time, we here in the diaspora says thank you.”

Another FB user, by the name of Lawyer Hosam Farhan Sriwi quoted, “Congratulations to a wonderful service project that serves everyone forward, sir Hon Dr Terrance Drew.”

Such comments from the public reflects their trust and confidence on Prime Minister Dr Drew and Labour Party, who are working continuously and efficiently for the prosperity of the people.
