PLP aligned media platform, St Kitts and Nevis Times has been sowing discord in the country by questioning the easy collaboration of the leaderships of the federal government and the Nevis Island Administration. The SKN Times has been questioning Dr Terrance Drew’s action on Nevis Fair share and creating a meme out of a peaceful and mutually respectful working relationship.
The news outlet has questioned Premier Mark Brantley’s respectful working relationship with the federal government. They accused the Premier of forgetting the fight for a fair share for Nevis, a problem that has existed before the time for the present Drew led administration.
The issue of long fair share is not only long-standing it is also something that the previous government did not act appropriately on. Arguably, the PLP led Unity Government had the Premier of Nevis as one of the members of the cabinet.
The administration had ample opportunity to act in this direction and did not take any concrete steps for seven years of them being in office. Now that Dr Terrance Drew is actively working with the World Bank the PLP and all their partners are digging out negatives where none exist.
The World Bank Report, an unbiased report detailing allocations of funds and resources and funds to help both the nations grow is being used to fuel restlessness. Both the islands are yet to sit together and deliberate on the report, with both the Federal and NIA officers in attendance.
No official announcements have been made regarding the allocations prescribed in the Fair Share Report. However, the opposition is using every possible opportunity to drag down efforts to create harmony between the NIA and the federal government.
The St Kitts and Nevis times has claimed that The Premier of Nevis is settling without the fair share after fighting for it. However, this is not true as the federal government has already started sharing the grants and funds that they recieve from the Republic of China (Taiwan) with the NIA.
In a recent press conference, Premier Brantley had highlighted that he was not even aware of the grants coming the way of the federal government. He had also thanked the Drew led administration for giving Nevis a fair chunk out for the donations.
All this proves that the two adminstrations are already working and sharing resources with ease and there is no reason to manufacture unrest.
