The Nevis Island Administration which is led by the Concerned Citizens Movement has taken a large step to restructure the telecoms landscape in Nevis. They signed an agreement with St Kitts-Nevis Cable Communications Ltd. on April 23, 2025 to bring in the third communications player to the island.
Premier of Nevis and the Minister of Economic Planning, Mark Brantley welcomed The Cable to Nevis, fulfilling a promise he made during the December 2024 budget debate. He also brought up that they should put forth to the public an alternative in the telecommunications market.
This alternative should include better pricing, better service, better quality while also trying to build their economy. Also, Premier Brantley reported that they have had cable in St Kitts and Nevis for a number of years but it has never operated in Nevis.
Notably, it is a chance for Nevis to have a third service provider which will in turn create a strong competition in terms of price and service in the Nevis telecoms market.
The Cable’s Operations in Nevis
The cable is all set to start its operations in Nevis. Also for the first time the company will be operating out of St Kitts and Nevis. They will be using the NIA’s local fiber which in turn will allow the island to fully control its digital infrastructure.
Significance of the Agreement
Premier Brantley highlighted the significance of the agreement between Nevis and The Cable. He said that the Nevis Island Administration’s partnership with The Cable will help generate revenue. In this way, the island will have full control of its digital infrastructure.
This will see large scale investment from international and local companies and individuals. Also the agreement will show the CCM led administration’s support for innovation, inclusion, and economic empowerment in the digital age. It will also bring more digital access and affordability to Nevisians.
