Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew met with United States Secretary of State, Marco A. Rubio for a high-level meeting on May 6, 2025 (Tuesday). He was also accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and St Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United States, Jacinth Henry-Martin.
The delegates engaged in meaningful conversation which was focused on expanding collaboration on matters of shared interest. It also focused on strengthening cooperation and deepening ties between the United States and the Eastern Caribbean region. The agenda of the meeting covered a wide range of critical areas.
PM Drew said that the discussions at the meeting were “frank, focused, and forward-looking.” He further noted that St Kitts and Nevis will remain committed to ensuring that the voice of the Caribbean region continues to be heard.
Prime Minister Drew also added, “We [Caribbean leaders] will continue to work collaboratively to secure tangible outcomes for our people.” A post was shared recently on his official Facebook account that stated they are looking forward to continued dialogue between the United States and their region.
PM Dr Terrance Drew also emphasized the value of sustained dialogue and partnership with key global allies. He said that the United States remains an important strategic partner to St Kitts and Nevis and the Eastern Caribbean.

Six other Caribbean leaders who met United States Secretary of State, Marco A. Rubio alongside PM Terrance Drew were the Prime Ministers of Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Part of OECS
All these nations are part of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). It is an International Intergovernmental Organization which is dedicated to regional integrity in the Eastern Caribbean. Some common goals shared by the nations who are part of OECS are trade with each other, share resources, or solve national/ international issues.
