The Organization of American States (OAS) will deploy an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) in order to observe the General Elections in St Kitts and Nevis, scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2022. After receiving an invitation from the government of Saint Kitts and Nevis, on July 26, 2022,
The Organization of American States (OAS) Mission will be headed by The former prime minister of Jamaica, Bruce Golding.
It also comprises eleven experts and observers from 9 countries in the region. These experts and observers will work in-person and remotely to observe areas such as electoral organization and technology, electoral justice, political finance and women’s political participation in the upcoming General Elections
The Mission began its initial deployment on Saturday, July 30. The chief of Mission will arrive on Tuesday, August 2 and meet with government officials, electoral authorities, political leaders, candidates, civil society representatives, and other relevant stakeholders.
The General Elections of 2022 will be the fourth time the Organisation of American States will deploy an Electoral Observation Mission in Saint Kitts and Nevis. After the elections in the country have been concluded, the Mission will present a preliminary report with its observations, along with recommendations that will strive to support the continued strengthening of the electoral process in the country.
In St Kitts and Nevis, the various contending political parties filed their nomination on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from the various constituencies, urging the people of their constituencies to vote for them in the upcoming general elections. The political party headed by the current prime minister Dr Timothy Harris, the People’s Labour Party, unveiled their election manifesto on July 29, 2022, making a number of promises to the citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis.
