Electoral Observation Mission will be deployed in the Bahamas for surveillance of General elections. On September 16, the general elections are to be held in the Bahamas. The Organization of American States has done the deployment.
According to the OAS Secretary- General Luis Almagro for the election of Bahamas had appointed Denis Godwin Antonie. He would be giving his service as chief of the mission there.
Ambassador Antoine served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Grenada to the People’s Republic of China between 2016-2019. He also gave his services as Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Grenada to the United Nations from the year 2013 -2015. Additionally, he also served as Grenada’s Ambassador to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the OAS. He was also a non-resident Ambassador for Grenada to Mexico and Panama concurrently, from the year 1995 to 2009.
The mission that would start its deployment in the Bahamas from September 9 would be having 17 experts and observers from 9 various. Stated Organization of American States.
The OAS said, “While the majority of the mission’s members are working in-person, some are carrying out their duties remotely. In the Bahamas, they will meet with government officials, electoral authorities, political leaders, candidates, representatives of civil society and other relevant actors, which will allow for a comprehensive analysis of the process. The mission will focus its work on the examination of issues related to electoral organization, electoral technology, electoral boundaries, electoral registries, political-electoral financing and the political participation of women.
It said this is the third time that it will deploy an EOM in the Bahamas.
After the elections, the OAS said the mission will present a preliminary report with its observations and recommendations “aimed at contributing to the continued strengthening of the electoral process in the country.”
