St. Kitts and Nevis cricketer, Mikyle Louis made his West Indies Test Debut today in the 1st match between England and West Indies. Mikyle Louis is the first test player from the island Federation of St. Kitts.
The West Indies announced their lineup for the first Test against England on Tuesday, July 9, prior to the match on Wednesday, July 10, confirming the participation of Louis in the West Indies Team.
Samal Duggins, Sports Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, through his Facebook extended congratulations to Mikyle and gave him best wishes. “Congratulations, Mikyle! The entire nation stands behind you! Go out there and make us proud! Remember, St. Kitts: small but Tallawah!” stated the Sports Minister.
Mikyle Louis also shared his story and stated that the love he has for the game has been passed on to him by his father as he is a cricket enthusiast. He also mentioned how his father ensured that he along with his brothers play cricket as a hobby, but then as the love for the game grew, the passion grew and the career evolved.
““It really turned into a career choice. I remember that, as early as five years old, my father would take my brothers, and I used to play cricket on the weekends,” said Louis.
Additionally, he added that as he grew up, he understood the importance of being disciplined as a young man because he was selected for the under 13 seconds team and progressed into being selected for the junior league teams on the 15, on the 17 and on the 19, everything started at home.
As Louis is set to make this next step in his career, he said his main goal is to focus on performing at the highest level, because many before him have been selected for the West Indies, but not many have performed at the highest level and this is something that he felt proud on and something that he has aimed for.
