The government of St. Kitts and Nevis hosted the 2027 Budget consultation Forum on October 20, 2026. The forum was attended by stakeholders from various sectors of the country including private sector partners, trade unions, educators and community organisations. The Acting Prime Minister of the country, Dr Geoffrey Hanely Presided over the budget consultation and delivered the keynote address.

Dr Hanley welcomed all the stakeholders who had attended the budget consultation to share their ideas for the upcoming 2027 National Budget. He talked about the theme of the exercise during his keynote address and acknowledged that it places a clear responsibility on the stakeholders who are gathered for the budget consultations.

The Acting Prime Minister said that it is the responsibility of the government to make sure that the investments which are being made can benefit the people in a tangible manner. He said that over the last few years, the government has taken several steps to address the immediate needs of the people of the country. At the same time, they have made investments in building a stronger foundation for the people.

The Acting Prime Minister said that the government has made development in wages, healthcare, social security, water security and more. At the same time, the government of St. Kitts and Nevis also understands that the households need support in a trying time for the small island economy.

The upcoming 2027 budget must take into account all the challenges that the people of the country face. The administration acknowledges that the people of the island are entitled to expect results and ask when projects will be completed. The public can demand to know if an investment made by the country will benefit the people in a positive manner.

Dr Hanley also informed the people attending the budget consultations that international organisations like the IMF believe that St. Kitts and Nevis will see economic growth of 2.6% in 2026. He said that the country is also expected to see average annual growth of 3.5% over the period 2027 to 2030.

These projections help provide the government with the base on which the administration can continue to build plans for the future of the country.

The Minister has shared that the nation is expected to deal with pressures of a world that is changing rapidly. The government is trying to make smart investments, promote sound enterprises and build resilience against the rapidly changing world.

The government wants to build an economy that is capable of withstanding fiscal pressures, tariffs, disruptions to global trade and other challenges. The economy of the country must create more opportunities and provide the government with dependable means to support national development.
