Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes North Hollywood Area three hours after the Oscars

An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 hit the North Hollywood area on Sunday night, three hours after the 95th Academy Awards ceremony ended. The earthquake hit at around 10:13 pm, as the celebrities were gathering at the famous Vanity Fair after party.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) stated that according to the monitor’s seismic activity, most of the earthquake was felt around Los Angeles.

As per the media reports, no injuries or damage was reported. Reportedly, the attendees at the post-Oscar parties did not feel the shake of the earthquake.

About the earthquake 

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 1.4 miles east-southeast of North Hollywood, around 1.7 miles north of Universal City, and 2.5 miles east-northeast of Studio City. 

Despite the earthquake hitting a depth of 15.29 km, with tremors reaching till west to Santa Monica and till east to Los Feliz, no damage or injuries have been reported so far.

LAFD responds to earthquake

Margaret Stewart from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LAFD), said that no units were dispatched to check the infrastructure damage after the earthquake.

She further said that this is not something that usually happens when conducting a coordinated survey by land, air, and sea across all districts that were affected by the earthquake.

The Northridge Earthquake

The Northridge Earthquake is considered one of the worst earthquakes to hit Hollywood. Earthquake of 6.7 magnitude hit the center of the Northridge in southern California which caused 57 fatalities. 

As per the reports, thousands were injured during the earthquake, with the death toll coming to 72, including deaths by heart attack.
