A former resident of St Kitts and Nevis, Migel Julianna Matthews, who immigrated to the U.S., is found guilty of the murder of a 4-year-old due to driving while intoxicated. The four-year-old was identified as Christian Alizha Redmond. The DWI crash occurred four years ago, on December 20, 2019. The convict was a former Cayon, St Kitts resident and pursued her education at the Cayon primary and High Schools.
The 78th District Court in Wichita Falls, Texas, gave the verdict on Friday, May 19, 2023. As per the court of law testimonies, Matthews had consumed a pint of alcohol before the accident. Accordingly, The District Attorney of Wichita County, John Gillespie, demanded that Matthews be convicted of the charge of murder. The DA believes that charging her under intoxication manslaughter is not enough.
The convicted woman, Migel Julianna Matthews was driving intoxicated at 100mph where U.S. Highway 281 curves into Southwest Parkway. At the time of the incident, the car had five children and two adults. While fatal DWis usually end with a charge of Intoxication manslaughter, the DA stated that the court must set a precedent to protect the rights of the four-year-old deceased. He argued that the culprit was directly responsible for the death of the victim.
Migel Julianna Matthews confessed in the court of law that it took four shots of alcohol to get her drunk. However, the culprit claimed that she had had only a few shots and was not unfit to drive. On these grounds, the Defense Attorney, demanded that his client be charged for intoxication manslaughter. Meanwhile, the District attorney argued that the culprit’s actions caused the accident.
She made several questionable decisions during the drive which led to the accident. One of these decisions was to consume large quantity of alchohol before driving. Then, she took the longer route to take the children home. She was also driving the car at a while speed. All these actions urge the court to believe that Migel Julianna Matthews should be convicted of the murder of Christian Alizha Redmond. The four siblings of christian, his mother and Matthews survived the accident while christian died on the pot due to blunt force trauma.
