Chicago’s West Side experienced heavy flooding due to rains which happened on Tuesday evening. Floods in the Chicago West Side area are a rare occurrence which experts believe happen as occasionally as once every five hundred years.
The intensity of the flash floods which happened in the west side area left several home basements being flooded and cars stuck in water for several hours. The weather and meteorology department of Chicago had issued a flood watch several hours previously on Tuesday.
By Wednesday morning, the flood water had receded reigniting hope for a normal day starting Wednesday. The effects of the flood the previous day however left several people stuck in underpasses with waist deep water.
The situation cleared somewhat in the early hours of Wednesday when the flood water started receding, however previously, some of the vehicles trying to drive in the flood were found stuck. One of the vehicles also reported a crash with several drivers sharing their dismay over the flood like situation.
The drivers of the comparatively bigger vehicles were able to drive past the underpasses which turned out to be a major cause of concern during flooding. The Police Department of California has not received reports of any major injuries from the people who were stuck in the floods.
Media has received reports that people needed to be rescued out of floodwater however no confirmation on this report has come from the police or fire department of Chicago. The locals have reports that the situation was overwhelming as they have not seen similar scenarios too often.
A full block was underwater on the near West Side north of Roosevelt Road on West Grenshaw Street before the water receded in the early hours of Wednesday. The floodwater went into the basement of some of the homes and some of the tenants needed to be rescued from the basements when the rain became more pronounced.
