St John’s, Antigua: The Member of the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda, Asot Michael, was found dead in a pool of blood in his home at the Dry Hill on Tuesday, November 05, 2024. A young man has been arrested in connection with the unexpected alleged murder that has left Antigua and Barbuda in shock.
The information states that politician was found on the floor inside his home, half naked from the waist part, as reported by his maids. The body of the 54-year-old Michael was covered in blood and a lot of it spilled on the floor around the crime scene.
Soon after finding the dead body of the politician, the maids reported the crime to the police who were appointed to conduct the preliminary investigations.
The Royal Police Force reached the MP’s Dry Hill Residence and sealed the crime scene. According to the reports by the police on the Caribbean Island, Asot Michael was found unresponsive with “multiple puncture wounds about his body” after 8 am in his home.
The cause and the reason of death is not yet cleared, with the concerned authorities now taking action to investigate the death. Even though the circumstances of the crime have not been revealed, it has been in talks that foul play is definitely involved in the murder.
The investigation team is taking quick action to look into the incident. They also interviewed the maids, who were the last ones to see Asot Michael and first ones to discover the body.
The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne expressed deep shock and sadness after the suspected homicide of the country’s one of the most prominent MP. Other members of the party have also expressed their sorrows and paid tribute to Michael.
The Chair of the party, EP Chet Greene said that the death of Asot Michael is a significant loss to the party. The Labour Party’s first vice-chair Samantha Marshall also mentioned that Michael would be remembered as someone who “championed the rights of the marginalised and advocated for policies that uplifted the underprivileged.”
Other than the ministers, the local crowd gathered outside the residence of Michael to express their grief. However, the local authorities have urged people to keep calm, for being patient and appealed for respect for the MP’s family.
