St Kitts and Nevis: A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the island of St Kitts and Nevis amidst the threat of passing the “Storm Ernesto.”
The island nation of St Kitts and Nevis is directly in the passage of the storm and is likely to pose a threat by today morning or afternoon.
According to the current weather conditions, the tropical storm system has been approaching the region and is said to turn into ‘Storm Ernesto’ in upcoming days.
However, the government has issued a Weather Bulletin that states that leading moisture and instability ahead of the tropical disturbance that will continue to generate cloudy periods and showers throughout the day.
With such conditions, it is also expected that the Tropical Storm Watch will turn into a Warning by today.
The government has urged the residents to remain alert and monitor the current situation as unpleasant conditions could become threat to flood-prone areas.
With the current weather, St Kitts and Nevis is likely to impact with heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms with the passing of the Tropical Storm. The maximum speed of the winds was near 30 mph and is expected to be a tropical storm within 12 hours.
Along with St Kitts and Nevis, the Tropical Storm Watch is also issued for Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, and Anguilla as the conditions could also pose a threat to these countries.
The winds are expected to become a tropical storm before it reaches the Leeward Islands and it will also likely to bring flooding. Heavy rainfall will result in flash flooding and mudslides in Leeward Islands on Tuesday and Wednesday. These will pose a threat to Puerto Rico and other nearby countries on Wednesday.
As the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season is underway in the Caribbean, it is predicted to remain super active as St Kitts and Nevis will experience the threat of the heavy rainfall and other conditions.
In wake of the unfavorable weather conditions, the government of St Kitts and Nevis announced the closure of the offices. The offices will remain closed on Tuesday, and the general public is advised to take note and plan accordingly.
The government has also asked the citizens are asked to brace themselves as the impact could be dangerous.
