The football team from St Kitts and Nevis, Sugar Girlz are currently in Anguilla for the ongoing Leeward Islands Women’s Football Challenge Series.
Scheduled from 15th December to 21st December, 2024 the series will prove to be an international platform for the players to showcase their game skills and clinch the title.
The Women’s Football Challenge is a great opportunity for the young females to display the spirit, passion and talent of women’s football throughout the region.
The Leeward Islands Women’s Football Challenge Series is a tournament which has brought together some of the best women’s football players from the Caribbean, with teams from four nations,
The Caribbean nations that are participating in the tournament, include, Anguilla, St. Kitts & Nevis, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Antigua and Barbuda.
Dr Denzil Douglas Extends Wishes to Sugar Girlz
Dr Denzil Douglas congratulated and extended his best wishes to the members of Sugar Girlz who are representing St Kitts and Nevis in Anguilla. He called this series a ‘significant opportunity’ for the women’s football team of St Kitts and Nevis.
Dr Douglas said that the Leeward Islands Women’s Football Challenge Series is a huge platform for the players to showcase their talent, build their skills and promote stronger footballing relationships between the participating nations.
First match of Sugar Girlz against Antigua and Barbuda
The Sugar Girlz played their first match of the series against Antigua and Barbuda at the Raymond E. Guishard Stadium of Anguilla. Sugar Girlz lost by 5-0 in their first game against Antigua and Barbuda.
However, the St Kitts and Nevis Football Association praised the efforts of the team and said that it is crucial to appreciate the determination and commitment showcased by the team on the field.
They said that the team showcased great effort and determination on the field and gave their best.
The Association said that every match is a learning opportunity for Sugar Girlz and it is important for them to use this experience to come back even stronger in the coming games.
The St Kitts and Nevis Football Association further went on to mention that this is just the beginning of their journey in the tournament. They also expressed their excitement to see the female football team of the country, Sugar Girlz grow and shine in the upcoming year.
