Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: The construction at the Conaree football stadium which had started early this year, is nearing completion.
The long awaited football stadium is going to have state of the art facilities.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew along with Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins, and contractor Ellison Isaac, visited the stadium to oversee the ongoing construction work.
The Prime Minister expressed his views on the progress of the work. He said that the football stadium will enable the local youth to take up the sport. This will restore Conaree as the football powerhouse of the country.
The Prime Minister said that special focus has been laid on ensuring that the infrastructure being developed at the Conaree football stadium meets the world class standards.
He said that local youth who have special love for the game will be able to utilise this facility to on their football skills.
“We are hoping that Conaree football stadium will produce world class football players and will enable St. Kitts and Nevis carve out a niche for itself on the world football map.”
The Prime Minister said that this stadium will also host Premier League games and other events under the aegis of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA).
The Conaree Football Stadium project was conceived almost a decade back but it could not take off due to one reason or another.
However, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew after coming to power had prioritized this project and the construction work started early this year.

The Prime Minister said that the project was in its final stages and once completed it will become a landmark for the local community.
The Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins, said that this stadium will not only become a hub of football activity in the region but it will also serve as a common platform for the local community. Besides hosting football events, the stadium will also be utilised for other collective activities by the local community.
He said that the sporting culture of the nation will get a big boost once this project is completed.
“We are hoping to see top class football players being produced from Conaree football stadium,” the Minister said.
He said that the stadium will stand tall as a symbol of progress being made by the nation in the field of sports.
The stadium will have a two story pavilion with all the modern amenities where professional football matches will be held. It will also have several facilities both for the players and the spectators. It will have seating areas, bars, commentary and media booths, change rooms with showers, bathrooms, and storage areas.
While constructing the stadium special ramps have also been built for differently abled individuals so that they can also come to the stadium to enjoy watching football games.
It is also hoped that the stadium will encourage the local people to take up sports and physical exercise as a daily routine. This will enable the local community to maintain good health and lead a more fulfilling life.
