St Kitts and Nevis are commemorating the start of the Hurricane season in the country. The hurricane season runs annually in the Caribbean region from June to November. Usually, the season peaks around August to October. After the official commencement of the hurricane season, in the country, the members of the government, leaders and the population of St Kitts and Nevis came together to pray for a safe and secure season from June to November.
The prayer service dedicated to the cause was hosted in the Seventh dqay Advenntist Church on Thursday, June 1, 2023. All the community members in St Kitts came together to pray “For the protection of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and the Caribbean. The church service was attended by all the members of the government, including the Prime Minister of the country, Dr Terrance Drew, The Minister of State, Isalean Philip and representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Other senior government officials and clergy members attended the event to pray for the “mercies and protection of god” during the hurricane season, which started officially on Thursday, June 1, 2023. The Ministry of Ecclesiastical and Faith-based Affairs, in collaboration with the St Kitts Christian Council and the St. Kitts Evangelical Association, organized the special church service for the St Kitts and Nevis community.
The official National Emergency Management Agency representatives were present at the prayer service. have also asked the people of the country to remain cautious and prepared for the upcoming hurricane season. The National Emergency Management Agency has shared that they are taking this time out to encourage the general public to do their annual hurricane preparedness activities, if they have not started doing so already.
In terms of these activities, they urged the people to get to know where the closest shelters to them are located as well as the District Managers and NEMA Volunteers in their area
