St Kitts and Nevis is working with Italy on procuring an Early Warning System to secure nationals from intensified hurricanes and storms. These natural disasters, which are becoming more devastating as a result of climate change, have been caused by much destruction and loss for the people of the island. 

St Kitts and Nevis has accordingly been working with the members of the international community to make sure that they are adequately prepared and forewarned in the event of such an incident in the future. A delegation of St Kitts and Nevis attended the Italy-CARICOM Joint Commission on Sustainable Development. 

At this event, the delegation, which consisted of officers like the Minister Counsellor and 2nd Committee (Economic and Financial Affairs) Lead at the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, Eustace T. Wallace, Director of Climate Action Unit in the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action, Dr. Elrick Francis and other officers. 

The collaboration between these officers is extremely crucial for the people of the small island states such as St Kitts and Nevis. These initiatives are designed in order to  help the people of the island nation remain prepared for the weather difficulties they may face in the future. 

The investment that is being o=made in the early warning systems has been under discussion for several months. The Ministers of St Kitts and Nevis, led by Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and Minister Joyelle Clarke, who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of environment and sustainable development. 

The leaders of St Kitts and Nevis have been engaged in several diplomatic meetings and initiatives to make sure that all the stakeholders feel ready for all the successive work that is coming their way. The Minister has shared that they will take this partnership and their diplomatic efforts seriously. 

The partnership forms the heart of the sustainable island state agenda. The collaboration between Caribbean and Italy comes in the aftermath of the devastation that was caused by Hurricane Melissa. 

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis shared his delight on seeing the collaboration coming to fruition. He thanked the government of Italy for their support  and partnership highlighting the situation that they are in.
